Theoretical Examination

NOTICE of November 17th, 2023 – We inform that, starting from November 20th, 2023, the ATPL/CPL/IR/BIR theoretical knowledge examinations will be conducted in accordance with Amendment 2022 Rev. 6. In comparison with the Amendments previously in force (2022 Rev. 3 - 4 – 5), 28 questions have been modified and 3 have been cancelled; the total amount of questions is now 8001.

Annexes have not been changed.

 

Rome, March 25th, 2022 - Theoretical knowledge examinations for the issue of ATPL/CPL/IR/BIR licences are currently regulated by Regulation (EU) No. 1178/2011 as amended, whose specific Section III - Part ARA.FCL.300, par. d), expressly provides for the need to ensure the integrity of the exams.

Furthermore, EASA requires that the exam questions are confidential and that property rights are protected (see "Declaration of confidentiality, non-conflict of interest and protection of intellectual property rights". EASA).

As a result, the aforementioned exams can only be viewed in the presence of a delegated ENAC official, who may not extract a documentary copy in any case.

Rome, February 23rd, 2022 - We inform you that, in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 1178/2011, Section III, AMC1 ARA.FCL.300, par. g):

Applicants may use the following equipment during an examination:
(1) a scientific, non-programmable, non-alphanumeric calculator without specific aviation functions;
2) mechanical navigation slide-rule (DR calculator);
(3) protractor;
(4) compasses and dividers;
(5) ruler.


Theoretical knowledge examinations for the issue of CPL, ATPL and PPL licences are regulated by Regulation (EU) No. 1178/2011 as amended. In Italy theoretical examinations are conducted exclusively by ENAC in accordance with ARA.FCL.300 and related EASA AMC.

The procedures for booking and taking the exams are described in Guidelines LG 2023/001 Lic Ed. No.1 dated 29/3/2023, in order to take into account the modified regulatory and organizational context  ENAC.

 

Compared to what was previously in force, it should be noted that the disciplinary rules for unfair behaviour are now applied as stated in Part ARA.FCL.300 (e) and (f).

 

It should also be noted that the CPL/ATPL/IR examinations are conducted using an IT procedure, in English, with multiple choice questions selected from the European Central Question Bank (ECQB).

In order to pay ENAC fees, the use of the "Servizi OnLine" application is recommended; it can be reached via the home page of the ENAC website (www.enac.gov.it).

 

The exams for the issue of PPL, glider or balloon licences are conducted by the ENAC regional offices; the calendar currently contains the following sittings:

 

 

The CPL/ATPL and IR exams, on the other hand, are conducted by the Flight Personnel Department at the HQ offices in Rome, Via Gaeta 3, and at Malpensa Airport (train from Milan Central Station or from Milan P.zza Garibaldi. The venue for the courses in Malpensa is at the Enac Operations Department close to Terminal 1).

New payment method for ATPL-CPL-IR theoretical knowledge examinations

 

We inform you that, from January 1st, 2024, the new payment method for ATPL/CPL/IR/BIR theoretical knowledge examinations will come into force.
