Enac for the air transport of the future: technological innovation, sustainability, intermodality

What is ENAC

ENAC is the sole authority for technical regulation, certification, supervision, and control in the civil aviation sector in Italy, in accordance with the powers derived from the Navigation Code.

Established by Legislative Decree No. 257 of July 25, 1997, it is subject to the guidance, supervision, and control of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

ENAC, which has assumed the duties previously assigned to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport, the Italian Aeronautical Register, and the National Air People Agency, is responsible for safety and service quality control, supervision of the implementation of sector regulations, economic regulation, and environmental protection.

What we do

ENAC operates in strategic areas of civil aviation, ensuring flight and passenger safety in aeronautical operations (safety) and within airports (security).

The centrality of the passenger, and particularly the protection of vulnerable travelers, is a key aspect of ENAC’s mandate as the body responsible for enforcing Passenger Rights Regulations.

It is responsible for awarding concessions for airport services, regulating tariffs, managing traffic agreements, and issuing operating licenses for air carriers. Particular attention is given to environmental protection, which drives sector development, through the use of advanced methodologies to improve energy efficiency.
